Martins was a wanted murderer sought by police, he had since grown out his hair in an obvious attempt at disguising himself.
On the 21st of July 2017, Jelani Martins (a wanted criminal), described as a key figure in the Unruly ISIS gang, was shot several times and killed in what the police, in Trinidad are describing as a shootout. However, eyewitness accounts at the scene claimed that Martins was killed in cold blood, by the police.
The following is excerpted from the TnT Guardian: “Crime Watch television host Ian Alleyne has complained of serious threats he received from Unruly Isis gang leader, Abdul “Krysis” Wakeel Krysis while at the Chaguanas Health Facility on Friday evening”.
The threats come after the killing of gang member Jelani Sajjad Martins.
On Friday, about 3.30 pm, Martins and another man were standing along the sidewalk near Sheldon’s Auto, Caroni Savannah Road, when, according to a police report, Martins opened fire on patrolling officers. The officers returned fire and Martins was shot several times about the body.
He was taken to the Chaguanas Health Facility where he later died.
In an interview with the Sunday Guardian, Alleyne said he was concerned about his staff as they had also been threatened.
“My camera guy, and other staff members were told that they could be killed one by one as they leave the building where I have my studio,” Alleyne said.
“I was even told me to watch my back as it could have someone waiting for me by the doubles man close to the vicinity of where my studio is. As you know, they shot at a doubles man and robbed a man in earlier months.”
Alleyne, however, said while he has beefed up security at the premises and around himself, his family and Crime Watch staffers, he is very concerned at the threats made to the police officers.
He said: “I am shocked over the brazen threats carried out in the faces of these police officers. They were told that they know where they live. These people have no respect for the police and soldiers and this only shows that it is a slap in the face of the Police Commissioner Stephen Williams himself. But, protection is needed for these police officers and soldiers and I hope they are given priority.”
In the wake of the debacle Islamic front leader Umar Abdullah a self-confessed former terrorist, issued the following press release, where he termed Martins killing as an extrajudicial killing:
Re: The Extrajudicial Killing of Jelani Sajjad Martins.
The extrajudicial killing of Jelani Martins is not sitting well with Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front). This act of homicide by the TTPS is going to tarnish and deliver a heavy blow to an already ugly image and will further degrade the public perception of the entire Service. The TTPS has clearly shown its inability to act positively and appropriately to curb the exploding crime rate and the inherent social and economic challenges. The TTPS seems to be evolving into a plague with a purpose to destroy the poor family structure which is the basic building block of society.
From the information received, we are of the firm belief that Officer Khan and his men should be investigated for the homicide of Jelani Martins and the unaccounted $21,500 which he had on his person. Sheldon the car dealer was taken into custody. A story we understand is now being concocted to say Jelani went to Rob Sheldon and Sheldon shot him.
We are calling on the Acting Commissioner of Police to launch an independent investigation into the killing of Jelani Martins and to immediately suspend the officers involved. We have already contacted the head of the PCA; David West who is awaiting an official complaint on Monday. Witnesses and video footage would be made available.
Waajihatul Islaamiyyah (The Islamic Front) would not stand idly by in the face of an act which is bound to erode public trust in our security forces. This approach to battling the challenges of crime and corruption in our nation must be reviewed. Those responsible for this behaviour must be brought to account and pay a heavy price.

The person calling himself Abdul Allaham Muhammad went on a tirade on Face Book against Ian Alleyne and other media personnel. His remarks prompted me to examine his public Face Book profile, on his public profile there are numerous pro-Islamic State posts. Scanny Martin and Hassan Atwell are praised as martyrs, in his posts.

This image posted on the FB page of the person calling himself Abdul Allaham Muhammad bears salient witness to the mindset of the Unruly ISIS gang. Hassan Atwell posted similiar messaging onto his FB page before he and Scanny Martin executed the prison break, they termed a martyrdom operation.

The name Unruly ISIS gang is appropriate since, some people like Shawn Crawford and others, who went to Syria, to fight with ISIS in Iraq and Syria, were formerly members, or affiliates of the Unruly ISIS gang in Trinidad. Since the group claims to be Muslims who strongly identify with, and adhere to the creed of Islam, that is jihad society, police and government officials should keenly monitor the gang, since it poses a serious threat to all concerned.
